Invasive Intraneural Interfaces: Foreign Body Reaction Issues
Intraneural interfaces are stimulation/registration devices designed to couple the peripheral nervous system (PNS) with the environment. Over the last years, their use has increased in a wide range of applications, such as the control of a new generation of neural-interfaced prostheses. At present, the success of this technology is limited by an electrical impedance increase, due to an inflamma...
متن کاملInvasive Aspergillosis Associated with a Foreign Body
Invasive aspergillosis is a serious complication in immunocompromised individuals. It is associated with a high mortality rate, which demands a combined approach involving radical surgery and antifungal therapy. Here, we describe a patient who presented with nonspecific fever, refractory to antimicrobial agents. Though it primarily involved the nasal cavity and sinuses, it perforated into the o...
متن کاملSarcoidal Type Foreign Body Reaction: A Case Report
Sarcoidosis and foreign body reactions are common differential diagnoses of skin granuloma formation. We report a 40 year –old man with sarcoid type granulomas containing polarized foreign materials, and also bilateral hilar adenopathy. It appears that detection of foreign bodies in histopatologic studies of granulomas does not necessarily exclude the possibility of sarcoidosis.
متن کاملControlling Hand Prostheses Using Peripheral Intraneural Interfaces
The development of more effective approaches to control dexterous hand prostheses is an important area of research that is currently addressed by several research groups. Among the possible solutions to achieve this goal, interfaces with the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and in particular intraneural electrodes can represent an interesting choice. In fact, they can provide an intimate and sel...
